It is about this time during winter when we long for it to be over. We generally have had enough dreary cool days. Our soul and spirit long for better weather and feelings of new birth. We have experienced enough of winter to last us for a while.
I love the variation of the seasons. When you live somewhere that you don’t get to experience the fullness of the seasons. I believe you miss the flow of nature, something God created to demonstrate his wisdom and love.

Hey guys this coming Friday is Valentine’s Day. I know there are those that think this is a made-up holiday. That the florist and card industry created this day for their own purposes. I get all that. But there is never anything wrong with telling someone how much you love them. More importantly it is always better when you show them how much you love them.
Love is described in the Greek language eight different ways.
1.Eros is described as the physical or emotional passi...read more

Our Favorite Passages by Mark Mitchell
If you are like me, you have some favorite passages in the bible. Sometimes I love to hear what everyone is.
I know that 1 Corinthians 13 is somebodies favorite. And don’t forget John 3:16. A few may have Isaiah 40:31 (but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint). A dear friend of mine’s favorite verse is Jeremiah 2

Doubt …… in a world of absolutes. by Mark Mitchell
It would almost be arrogant to say that you have no doubt about any of your conclusions in life. In fact, the assumption that we have figured everything out is ridiculous. For me the most astonishing truth is the more I learn the less I truly know. By that I mean as I continue to learn, I realize how much I didn’t know. Then how much more don’t I understand and know. This paradox is illustrated all throughout the b

Worry and Anxiety in a mad, mad world.

We all know that we live in a somewhat violent and volatile time in our world. In the past week we read and saw the news pertaining to shooting in a Church of Christ in Fort Worth, murder of Jews in New York, and even bombings in Iraq. This would not include all the crimes pertaining to others that has occurred recently. Our world seems to be coming apart at the seams. So, what do we do? The problem seems so big. We feel that there is nothing that we could possibly do as o

The school system in a large city had a program to help children keep up with their schoolwork during stays in the city's hospitals. One day a teacher who was assigned to the program received a routine call asking her to visit a particular child. She took the child's name and room number and talked briefly with the child's regular class teacher. "We're studying nouns and adverbs in his class now," the regular teacher said, "and I'd be grateful if you could help him underst

Understanding Advent

Understanding Advent thoughts from Mark Mitchell.
Advent is defined to mean the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event. This is not a worship of Christ’s birth but an acknowledgement of his arrival in time. When Advent was started as an idea of worship, it was started in anticipation of his next arrival. So they were convinced of this because of His first arrival. During this holiday season, many churches will celebrate or worship with the idea of Advent in like

Who Knows? A fable written long ago.
One day in late summer, an old farmer was working in his field with his old sick horse. The farmer felt compassion for the horse and desired to lift its burden. So he left his horse loose to go to the mountains and live out the rest of its life.
Soon after, neighbors from the nearby village visited, offering their condolences and said, "What a shame. Now your only horse is gone. How unfortunate you are!. You must be very sad. How will

Volunteers Needed

Recently in the news, the reporter noted that volunteer fire departments were struggling with getting volunteers. The report went on to say that if the trend continued, soon fire calls would go unanswered. For centuries, when someone called for help. Someone came. Imagine if you or your child needed help, and no one came. Our first reaction is to blame society and government for not doing more. But I wonder are we not our brother’s keeper.
I am not asking you to go and vo

Veteran’s Day
Tomorrow our nation will remember and give thanks for those who have served in our military. This day was set aside on Nov. 11, 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson to mark this day, one year after the end of WW I. World War 1 ended on the 11th hour, the 11th day of the 11th month. So, we have remembered since that time. We should never take lightly those who have served in order to maintain the freedom of our country and its citizens.
I know that war and all the
